Osprey Links Golf Gala raises $63,000 for Mammography.

(Callander, ON) The Osprey Links Charity Golf Gala, presented by OneLife Wealth Management, raised more than $63,475 towards the upgrade of the mammography machines to serve our community. Over the past 24 years this tournament has raised funds for important projects in our community, with more than $560,000 toward our community’s greatest medical equipment needs at the North Bay Regional Health Centre (NBRHC).

A mammogram is a specialized breast X-ray that can detect a tumor before symptoms appear or before you can feel it. In fact, a mammogram can find breast cancer up to two years before a lump is large enough to feel. Last year, more than 6,600 mammograms were performed at NBRHC. Early detection has a huge impact on outcome – something Liz Humphrey can attest to. “One day, while working from home, I felt a lump high on my breast. Naturally, I told myself it was nothing. I told my husband and after that conversation we felt that it was best to get it checked out, just to be safe – I assumed it was nothing because ‘cancer wouldn’t happen to me’,” Liz shared.

Over a span of 9 months Liz had 2 surgeries, 6 rounds of chemo and 20 rounds of radiation. It was a long journey and she’s made it through. “My diagnosis and ongoing care that I was able to receive at home was a huge relief for me and my family. This is why your generosity and dedication to raising money for our local hospital is so important. It’s important for people like me who can say I beat cancer. It’s important for my kids and husband, who still have their mom and wife here beside them,” said Liz.

Platinum sponsor for the sixth year, OneLife Wealth Management’s Sylvain Côté and Shawn Flindall helped launch the tournament. “Our hospital takes care of us. Our commitment is to our community; families and businesses. From family doctors to specialists – our community attracts medical professionals with local lifestyle and the availability of advanced medical equipment at our hospital. We feel fortunate to be here today to demonstrate our commitment and support. We’re honoured to do our part to inspire others,” they added.

Honorary Tournament Co-Chair, Michael Harris, former Premier of Ontario, opened the tournament with a ceremony on the putting green. “We started the tournament to support important causes in our community and twenty-five years later, it’s raised more than $1M. The healthcare needs of the people in the region have always been one of our top priorities,” he shared.

Bradley Minogue, President, Osprey Links Golf Course, highlighed the support of participants and sponsors, noting the time-honored traditions of friendship, comraderie and a round of golf for a community cause. “My family always looks forward to this tournament. My dad – Peter Minogue – would be proud that we have sustained an incredible impact on our community for twenty-five year! We are inspired to support a cause that everyone in our community benefits from, access to exceptional healthcare, close to home,” he shared.

Tammy Morison, President & CEO, NBRHC Foundation was humbled by the support. “With the proceeds from today’s tournament, we are well on our way in supporting the mammography needs of our community. Healthcare is truly a partnership between our government, our hospital and most importantly, our community,” said Morison.
