Grateful Family Program
Share Your Gratitude With A Golden Heart Award
Every day, incredible and compassionate care is provided to patients and families throughout our region.
The Grateful Family Program is an impactful way you and your family can express gratitude for the care you received at your hospital. Your donation can honour, thank and recognize a staff member, physician, or volunteer, with a Golden Heart Award.
Those honoured with your donation are recognized among their peers and are celebrated on social media. They also receive a golden heart badge to wear with pride.
You can also honour someone by donating online. Please include as much detail as possible in the comments section so we can honour your care team appropriately.

FAQs
What is the Grateful Family Program?
The Grateful Family Program allows patients and families to show their gratitude for the care they received at NBRHC. Through a donation, you can honour the staff who made a positive impact on your experience with a Golden Heart Award.
Is there a minimum donation?
Every gift makes a difference, with donations through this program ranging widely - from $20 to $25,000.
There’s no minimum donation required, so you can give an amount that feels right for you while still supporting exceptional health care close to home.
Your donation amount will remain completely private and will not be shared with the person you choose to honour.
Who can I honour with a donation?
You can honour any member of your care team, some examples include:
- Nurses
- Personal Support Workers (PSWs)
- Physicians
- Volunteers
- Other hospital staff
If you don’t know the name of a specific individual, our team will help identify the right person(s) for your tribute.
Can my donation be turned into a Golden Heart Award?
Yes! Your donation can be transformed into a Golden Heart Award, formally recognizing the staff member(s) for their exceptional care.
What happens when someone receives a Golden Heart Award?
Recipients are celebrated for their compassion, dedication, and outstanding care. Each award includes:
- A certificate of recognition
- A Golden Heart recognition badge
- Formal acknowledgment of their contribution at their staff huddle
- Optional public recognition (with consent) via our website, social media, and internal hospital blog.
This is a meaningful way to honour and celebrate hospital staff.
Do I need to know the staff member's name?
Not at all. If you don’t remember, our team can do the detective work to ensure your gift reaches the right person.
Can I include a personal message?
Yes! When making your donation, you can include a message of gratitude or story about your experience. Your note becomes part of the recognition and helps staff understand the positive impact they had on your care.
Will my gratitude be shared publicly?
If you choose, we can share your tribute and the story behind it on our website, social media, and internal hospital blog, celebrating the staff member’s award.
Can I remain anonymous?
Yes. You may request that your donation and message remain anonymous.
Do I receive a tax receipt for my donation?
Yes, all donations made through the Grateful Family Program are eligible for a charitable tax receipt, which will be mailed or emailed after processing.
How does my donation help?
Donations support exceptional health care close to home, by:
- Increasing access to care and expanding services
- Investing in medical equipment and technology
- Supporting Seniors & Youth
- Supporting Cultural Safety and Regional Outreach
You may further wish to specify a specific care area to support, such as cancer care, cardiac care, Emergency Department, mental health, and more.
Every gift helps the NBRHC Foundation ensure patients and families in our community continue to receive exceptional care, close to home.
