Meet Pat and Lisa O’Kane

After completing his chemotherapy treatments in May at NBRHC, Pat and wife Lisa, had the desire to do something to give back in recognition of the care he received.

As a musician he though what better way to celebrate the completion of his treatment than putting together a concert with friends where the proceeds would support the Chemotherapy Unit.

And thus, the Benefit Concert for the NBRHC Chemo Unit was created.

“I was overjoyed by the support of my fellow musicians who volunteered to be part of this fundraiser,” says Pat. “We pulled it all together pretty quickly (in only 2 months). There was such incredible interest, all the spots were filled in one day!”

“The music community in North Bay is one of a kind,” says Lisa.  “We had eight entertainers participate plus an open jam session. The talent in that room was something any city would be proud of.”

Pat and Lisa kept their event format simple – admission to the concert at Moose’s Cookhouse was by donation – their family, friends and colleagues responded with overwhelming generosity. Through donations, a silent auction and open jam session by donation, they were able to raise more than $6,700 to purchase a blanket warmer for the Chemotherapy Unit.

Chemo Benefit Concert

“I am overwhelmed with gratitude for my friends and family who donated online and in person and who joined us to celebrate the completion of my chemo,” says Pat.

Pat was diagnosed with colon cancer last July (2018). He has undergone surgery and finished several rounds of chemotherapy in May.

“The opportunity to stay in North Bay for surgery and for the months of chemo has been a true blessing not only for Pat, but for the many patients that we have met during this time,” Lisa reflects.
