NORTH BAY –North Bay Regional Health Centre Foundation is pleased to recognize RBC Foundation for their $60,000 Community Spaces Grant supporting improvements to Mishkikiwan, North Bay Regional Health Centre’s outdoor cultural grounds. The project will create a more accessible environment where Indigenous patients, families and community members can participate in cultural and spiritual practices as part of their healthcare journey.
Launched in April 2024, the RBC Foundation Community Spaces Grant program reflects RBC Foundation’s commitment to creating more accessible and environmentally sustainable community spaces across Canada. The program supports projects that remove barriers, strengthen inclusion and help build healthier, more connected communities.

A defining feature of care at NBRHC is Mînowacihewin – Regional Service for Indigenous People (Mino), which provides culturally relevant support through a holistic and balanced approach to health and wellness. Guided by consultation with the Mino team, the project will transform Mishkikiwan into a space that is accessible for patients using wheelchairs or stretchers.
The project reflects the North Bay Regional Health Centre’s commitment to delivering person-centred care through innovation, collaboration, accountability and inclusivity. By improving access to this important ceremonial space, the hospital continues to strengthen its efforts toward reconciliation while ensuring cultural and spiritual care is available to patients of all mobility levels.
