Sold Out Charity Golf Tournament Raises more than $30,000 for Critically Ill Babies

[North Bay, Ontario, May 28, 2025] –The weather held up on Sunday at Osprey Links Golf Club for the sold out NICU Charity Golf Tournament which raised more than $30,000 for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the North Bay Regional Health Centre (NBRHC).

Funds raised from this year’s tournament will build on last year’s success, supporting the purchase of biliblankets a crucial piece of equipment in treating jaundice in newborns. These blankets use therapeutic light to break down excess bilirubin in newborns, preventing severe complications, all while the baby can be snuggled and fed. They offer non-invasive and effective treatment, ensuring the well-being of babies and facilitating a quicker and safer transition into early life.

Tournament Co-Chairs, Geoff and Tracy Richardson are immensely grateful for the incredible generosity and support shown for this this annual fundraising event. “Each year, we’re reminded how deeply this community cares about its hospital and the families who count on it,” says Geoff. “Thanks to the continued generosity of our sponsors, golfers and volunteers, the NICU Charity Golf Tournament presented by North Bay Mazda is making a lasting difference. Every dollar raised helps equip our NICU with the tools and technology needed to give newborns the strongest start possible right here at home,” he added.

North Bay Mazda is proud to be making a significant investment and impact on healthcare in our community. “The NICU is close to our hearts, and we’re proud to support care that’s made a difference in our own family,” says Patrick Shaw, Managing Partner of North Bay Mazda. “We are thrilled to have so many friends, colleagues and businesses come together on this beautiful day at Osprey Links,” he added.

The Marson family shared their experience with tournament participants. When their twins arrived two months early, they found themselves in the middle of a situation no parent ever imagines. It was frightening and overwhelming. “It’s truly special to witness the generosity of our community, as a family whose lives were forever changed by the care our twins received in the NICU,” shared Krista Marson, grateful parent. “Thanks to the incredible team at NBRHC, and the specialized equipment, our babies were in the very best hands right here at home, when every minute mattered,” Marson added.

“The ability to purchase lifesaving medical equipment depends on strong partnerships between government, our hospital and our community,” says Tammy Morison, President and CEO of the NBRHC Foundation. “Every contribution, whether through monthly gifts, legacy giving, or corporate sponsorship, ensures patients receive the best care possible. We’re especially grateful to the Richardson’s and to North Bay Mazda for their unwavering support of our NICU and their commitment to giving newborns the healthiest possible start in life.

NICU at NBRHC:

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the North Bay Regional Health Centre cares for acutely ill neonates and their families. Nurses provide around the clock care to the hospital’s tiniest patients.

The unit accommodates eight newborns and serves as a high-risk referral centre for surrounding areas. Our level 2C unit cares for newborns of 30 weeks gestation and higher.

Last year, we celebrated 761 births and cared for 202 NICU patients.

Babies stayed in the NICU for a collective 1,366 days. Our dedicated nurses provide round-the-clock care to these tiny fighters, ensuring they receive the specialized attention they need to thrive.
