Community Raises $103,088 Supporting Urgently Needed Advanced Medical Equipment. At the 16th Annual Our Hospital Walk/Run

Sep 25, 2022 | Press Release

North Bay, ON – What began as a misty Sunday morning turned into excellent running conditions! The 16th annual in-person, Our Hospital Walk/Run, had just over 400 participants and volunteers and raised more than $103,088. Proceeds from this year’s Walk/Run are supporting minimally invasive surgical equipment for the operating rooms.

Foundation Trustee and former patient, Gail Thomson, gave an important perspective to this year’s fundraising focus. Thomsen, who underwent 10 surgeries in three years, shared that she had both open and laparoscopic (minimally invasive) surgeries. “The difference in my recovery was significant. I experienced healing complications with the open surgery and my overall healing time was lengthy.”

Her final surgery was performed laparoscopically and she expressed her gratitude for the exceptional care she received. “Instead of three-months to heal, the “key hole” incisions healed within a few weeks and large bulky dressings were not required. I was home within 48 hours and experienced very little discomfort as compared to my other surgeries,” she added.

“We are incredibly grateful that the community came out today and for the generosity of sponsors and pledgers along with participants and volunteers,” said Tammy Morison, Foundation President and CEO.  “Our Hospital Walk/Run is the community’s largest annual fundraiser for our Health Centre and has an impact on the care available close to home. Special thanks to all who helped make Our Hospital Walk/Run a success again this year.”

Community and Hospital teams were celebrated through the Team Challenge Awards.
