[North Bay, Ontario, June 1, 2026] – A beautiful Sunday at Osprey Links Golf Club was the backdrop for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Charity Golf Tournament which raised more than $65,000 for North Bay Regional Health Centre (NBRHC).

This year the proceeds are supporting the Central Monitoring Upgrade project. Every day, care teams rely on advanced monitoring technology to observe vital signs, identify early warning signals and respond immediately when seconds matter most. Our hospital is replacing and modernizing the Central Monitoring System that safeguards some of our most vulnerable patients. This upgrade will expand monitoring capacity across numerous care areas (including the NICU), will reduce system downtime and support proactive patient care.

Josée and Brady Facette spoke about their experience becoming parents and the lifesaving care provided by the NICU. “The silence after our son’s birth was the loudest moment of our life, but the NICU team brought compassion and skill during a frightening time,” the Facettes told the dinner. “Today, thanks to their care, we have a healthy five-year-old.”

Kirstie and Riaan Van Zyl, together with their son, shared how for them, the NICU nurses and staff became an important part of their journey. “They taught us everything — how to hold, bathe, change and feed between oxygen, monitoring and feeding tubes and wires and most importantly, how to believe in ourselves as parents during one of the hardest times of our lives.”

Every year, tournament Co-Chairs Geoff and Tracy Richardson say they are reminded how deeply this community cares about its hospital and the families who count on it. “Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, golfers and volunteers, the NICU Charity Golf Tournament presented by North Bay Mazda is making a lasting difference. Every dollar raised helps ensure our NICU is equipped with the tools and technology needed to give newborns the strongest start possible right here at home.”

North Bay Mazda is proud to be making a significant investment and impact on healthcare in our community. “The NICU is close to our hearts, and we’re proud to support care that’s made a difference in our own family,” says Patrick Shaw, Managing Partner of North Bay Mazda. “We are thrilled to have so many friends, colleagues and businesses come together on this beautiful day at Osprey Links.”

The ability to purchase life-saving medical equipment depends on strong partnerships between government, our hospital and our community, and every donation, whether made through monthly giving, a gift in a will, corporate sponsorship or event participation, helps ensure patients have access to the equipment and technology they need, close to home.

“This year’s tournament featured a ‘double impact’ – proceeds were matched dollar-for-dollar by a humble community donor who has been connected to our Hospital, NBRHC Foundation and the tournament, for many years,” explains Tammy Morison, President & CEO, NBRHC Foundation.

NICU at NBRHC:

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the North Bay Regional Health Centre cares for acutely ill neonates and their families. Nurses provide around the clock care to the hospital’s tiniest patients.

The unit accommodates eight newborns and serves as a high-risk referral centre for surrounding areas. Our level 2C unit cares for newborns of 30 weeks gestation and higher.

Last year, we celebrated 715 births and cared for 173 NICU patients.

Babies stayed in the NICU for a collective 1,366 days. Our dedicated nurses provide round-the-clock care to these tiny fighters, ensuring they receive the specialized attention they need to thrive.
