A Letter from Bethany and Anthony:

Becoming a parent changes the way you see many things - including your local hospital.

Dr Bola Sogbein - North Bay Regional Health Centre Foundation

When our son Malcolm was born at North Bay Regional Health Centre in August 2024, we experienced the kind of moment every parent hopes for – excitement, a few nervous laughs, and the quiet realization that life had just changed forever.

Like many first-time parents, we arrived at Labour and Delivery feeling excited and a little unsure of what to expect. The care team welcomed us warmly, answered our many questions, and guided us through Malcolm’s first days with patience, kindness, and expertise.

Their calm reassurance meant the world to us as we stepped into the adventure of parenthood, complete with very little sleep and an entirely new appreciation for coffee.

Moments like that stay with you. They also shift your perspective. Suddenly, the importance of having the right medical equipment, technology, and care available close to home felt even more meaningful.

As parents, we now think about healthcare a little differently. We think about the care Malcolm may need as he grows. We think about the many other families welcoming children into the world at our hospital. We also think about what healthcare will look like for the next generation growing up here.

That is one of the reasons we joined the iGive Monthly Club and why we hope you’ll consider joining us.

We have family that have long supported their local hospital and encouraged us to consider doing the same. Joining the iGive Monthly Club felt like a practical and meaningful way to carry that tradition forward while supporting the healthcare that cares for our family and so many others in our community.

We’ve also come to understand that much of the advanced diagnostic and surgical equipment used at our hospital isn’t solely funded by the government. Instead, it relies on a funding partnership between the government, our hospital, and our community. Without the support of community members like you and families like ours, our hospital would struggle to keep up with the growing need for state-of-the-art medial equipment.

That’s why our monthly donation is so important to us – it’s our way of helping ensure our hospital has the resources it needs to continue providing excellent care to everyone in our community.

Life with a young child keeps us happily busy these days. Between stroller walks, diaper changes, and time spent with friends and neighbours, we enjoy the simple moments that make living in this city so special.

For more than 15 years, we have also volunteered as musicians with a local community concert band. Being part of this community – and now raising our son here – has deepened our appreciation for the care available close to home.

Our monthly donation is one small way we help sustain that care for the future.

Joining the iGive Monthly Club was surprisingly simple. In fact, it took less time than putting together Malcolm’s stroller.

Ā When monthly gifts from many families come together, they make a meaningful difference. Last year, the iGive Monthly Club collectively contributed more than $124,500 toward essential medical equipment and upgrades that support patient care.

You may choose to begin your monthly support with a gift of $10, $25, or $75 per month. Monthly giving is customizable to fit your budget.

We feel fortunate to raise our family in a community where excellent healthcare is available close to home. Supporting our hospital feels like a natural way to help ensure care is always available for Malcolm, and for the many families who visit our local hospital every day.

With gratitude,

P.S. Malcolm’s first days showed us how meaningful strong healthcare close to home truly is. Month after month, generosity through the iGive Monthly Club helps ensure our hospital has the essential medical equipment and technology needed to care for families across our community.
